1870 New Cemetery.--Clear Lake Lodge No. 130, I.O.O.F. have purchased six acres of land, being the northeast corner of J. Smith’s ranch, adjoining this town, for the purpose of establishing a cemetery. We are informed that it is the purpose of the Lodge to have the ground surveyed and plotted, and to plant ornamental trees and shrubbery immediately. During the coming Spring it will be enclosed by a substantial fence. Suitable lots will be reserved for the private use of membes of the Lodge who have families, but there will be ample space for the interment of those who are not members, whose surviving friends may choose to avail themselves of this privilege. The spot possesses much natural beauty, being covered with an indigenous growth of the evergreen manzanita, and of oaks, whose drapery of hanging moss gives to them a sad and sombre aspect appropriate to the purpose. The remains of Mrs. Smith, C.N. Copsey, Eddie Jarboe and Mrs. Noel now lie buried there. We trust that an undertaking so laudible will receive encouragement, and assistance, if necessary, for the community at large; for it is probable that many of us, and at present little dreaming of dream, will here find a final resting place, as the institution of Odd Fellowship is cosmopolitan in character, devoid of exclusiveness, and is known to the world by acts of benificence, (Lower Lake Bulletin February 12, 1870)
1871 A New College - We learn from E.M. Day of this place that he was waited on by a committee of churchmen representing the Methodist Church of the State who were desirous of selecting a location for a college. Mr. Day offered them four acres of his land gratis. The location is a healthy and beautiful one; on one side commanding a view of the town and surroundings and on the other a view of the Lake and distant mountains. The committee expressed themselves much pleased to recommend the adoption of this place as a permanent location. (Lower Lake Bulletin February 4, 1871)
1890 The Walls hotel at Lower Lake was burned on last Monday night. Mr. Hoff, the new proprietor who has recently purchased the property had only a small insurance, consequently the loss was quite severe on him. Mrs. A.E. Noel, owner of the Bulletin by quite dangerously ill, caused by the over exertion at the fire. (Lake Co. Avalanche December 18, 1890)

1914 New Institution of Learning Mrs. Eva D. Lovis, principal of the Lower Lake Business College, was a visitor in town Saturday while making the acquaintance of some of our people with a view of interesting them in her school, which was successfully opened on May 3. Mrs. Lovis is a teacher with many years experience, both in the public schools and business colleges, and promises that her school at Lower Lake shall take second place to none, so far as thoroughness of work is concerned. The school will give a regular business course, including all branches usually taught by larger schools. Shorthand and typewriting will also be taught, and there will be a normal prepatory course, which will fit the pupil for the county teacher’s examination. The institution established by Mrs. Lovis is one which has been very much needed in Lake County and will doubtless receive the hearty support of all our citizens to which it is certainly entitled.
